Each plank is 1220mm x 180mm, clicked at a perfect 45° angle. We dry-laid the first 10 rows to check the arrow pattern – because if your starter row is off by even 2mm, the whole floor walks and you’ll see it immediately. We used a laser line and a speed square for every single row.
The click-lock system is a 5G angle-insert type. You hear that satisfying click when it’s fully seated. No hammering, no glue – just clean locking. We left 10mm expansion gaps around all perimeter walls, and also around the kitchen island, fireplace hearth, and sliding door tracks. Used 10mm spacers religiously.
Whole house means hallways, walk-in robes, living area, dining, and even the laundry (yes, hybrid is 100% waterproof, so go for it). We transitioned into the bathrooms with a colour-matched aluminium trim – no hump, just a flat, safe edge.
Why it transformed the space:
Before – old laminate that was lifting at the seams, noisy underfoot, and looked cheap. After – wide herringbone pattern makes the rooms feel bigger, the acoustic underlay kills footsteps and echo, and the hybrid surface is scratch-resistant (dogs, kids, moving furniture – all good). Plus, cleaning is a joke: just a dry mop or a damp cloth. No wax, no special liquids.
Final check before we called it done:
Herringbone V’s are consistent in direction throughout the house.
Tapped every board with a rubber mallet – no hollow sounds.
Checked all expansion gaps are covered by skirting or scotia.
Walked the whole floor barefoot – no lippage (all joints perfectly flush).
